Each year, worshipers in Iran’s historic city of Yazd gather on the streets of Golchinan neighborhood during Islam’s holy month of Ramadan to break their fast.

During the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims abstain from eating and drinking from sunrise to sunset.

The act of fasting in Ramadan is aimed at reminding people of the impoverished people and their suffering.

The worshippers break their fast with the evening meal called “iftar”.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It is the month when the first verses of the Holy Quran were revealed to Islam’s Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Ramadan sees charitable people distributing free food among others, especially the needy.

Worshippers also go to mosques and holy sites to recite the Holy Quran and make supplications to Allah during the holy month.
